Cambridge Assessment has announced the cancellation of the BMAT from the 2024-2025 academic year, citing "operational and financial challenges" in delivering this complex, high-stakes test. Essentially, the cost and complexity of running the BMAT, which has been a part of medical school admissions since 2003, have become unsustainable.
Starting in September 2025, the Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT) will be discontinued. Given that all other medical schools incorporate an admissions test into their selection process, it is likely that BMAT universities will implement a new admissions test for medicine applicants. The most apparent alternative appears to be the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT). Nonetheless, institutions like Oxford and Cambridge, known for their unique admissions tests for various courses, might opt to develop their own specific tests for medical admissions.
